Alaia, Ancient Finless Surfboard
drdianascience asked:
Short clip to describe the ancient finless surfboard, the Alaia. Mikey DeTemple uses his Alaia surfboard @ PAFB, Florida. The board shown in the video was custom shaped by George Robinson. Additionally, a few clips of Mikey DeTemple riding a "modern longboard".

I have shots of Mikey riding the alaia as well as his longboard. You may be watching a section where he is riding his longboard vs. alaia.

When Mikey goes for the spin it almost looks like there’s a fin on the alaia. Is that just my impression?

Looks to me from studying the videos, that the bottoms of Tom’s alias are concave on the sides and thicken in the middle to make just a hint of a keel.
Many of the alias around the 1900’s were just flat planks with rounded noses and rails. Definitely more skill needed to ride on them.
